Hi!
I’m Ali Cushing, and I would love to get to know you.
I am a professional Photographer. I am also a freelance illustrator, former professional ballerina, and nature lover. I grew up in a small town surrounded by the beautiful Puget Sound and PNW wilderness, lived in Seattle for 8 years, then in Brooklyn for 7 years, and now I live in the little riverside village of Sleepy Hollow, NY. I studied a combo of Political Science (because I’m interested in people and the way we relate to one another) and Biology (because all science intrigues me, but especially learning about all forms of life) in college, but decided to focus on creative work for my career, while still being invested in both people and the natural world. That’s part of why I feel lucky to get to be close to the wild and also be just a short train ride from the City.
I first picked up a traditional 35mm film camera in my 6th grade photography class and have been hooked ever since; it’s been a pleasure taking what was once a passionate hobby and turning it into a career. While my life to this point has been anything but a straight path and having traversed so many avenues, from 20 years of ballet dancing and freelance Illustration, to public interest, civil rights law, to working in the film and TV industry, I am highly aware of how they all contribute to my photographic approach, and relationships to my clients.
I have two cats I adore, a fella I love, I’m both a bird and people watching enthusiast, and I can’t leave the house without seeing beauty all around me. I take pleasure in the simple and mundane as much as I do grand views and exquisite art and to get to channel that into my work is a dream come true.
